Addiction counselor Charles “Chuck” Hudak brings more than clinical expertise to the Tree House Recovery California team—he brings lived experience. His conviction to help others overcome addiction was born from his own journey through recovery, having successfully completed the addiction treatment program himself.
“This is the groundbreaking stuff that is actually going to make a difference in people’s lives. I believe in it, and I want to be able to contribute to the research, contribute to the statistics, and the evidence that this is what addiction treatment needs—places like Tree House,” says Charles.
Today, Charles blends professional training with personal insight to ensure clients feel heard, understood, and empowered.
Charles holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC II). He uses a client-centered, trauma-informed approach rooted in the belief that recovery requires both accountability and connection.
Charles’s philosophy is grounded in compassion, understanding, and the belief that behavior is often a reflection of deeper, unresolved pain. He approaches every client with the awareness that individuals entering treatment are carrying past traumas and negative beliefs.
“When someone lashes out or struggles to connect, it’s not really about the moment—it’s often about the past. They’re not yelling at a peer on the beach; they’re reacting to pain that started long before,” he expresses.
By identifying these underlying patterns, Charles helps clients move from reaction to awareness. This allows clients to understand themselves better and begin real emotional healing.
Charles was inspired to return back to Tree House Recovery in Orange County not just for work but for the genuine fellowship. It was more than a substance abuse program; it was a community that encouraged growth and lifelong connection.
“It was the fellowship—having real friends again, people I could rely on and who relied on me. That mattered. This wasn’t a place that just helped you get clean and sent you on your way. They cared about what came next. They helped me level up—not just get well,” says Charles.
Today, Charles brings that same mindset to his role as a California addiction counselor. He’s committed to creating that sense of purpose, connection, and lasting support for every client who walks through the door.
Outside the office, Charles is a dedicated partner, father, and lifelong learner. After a full day of supporting clients, he heads home to support his family.
Charles often winds down by reading—usually material related to counseling, psychology, or something relevant to the clients he’s working with.
His passion for continued education and self-improvement isn’t just for his own benefit—it’s driven by a desire to bring new insights and perspectives into the work he does every day at Tree House Recovery.
