July in Southern California: Your 2019 Guide to Orange County Events

We’re lucky enough to be located in the beautiful land of southern California, where the sun is usually shining and there is always something to do. There’s something for everyone this summer, whether you’re looking to relax, get to know the arts scene, or go on adventures. Here’s a guide to some of the most exciting events in our part of California.

Festival of Arts (foapom.com)

Into art? Festival of the Arts is the longest-running outdoor fine arts exhibition in California. It features artwork by 140 artists and includes paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, jewelry, and sculptures of all sorts. If you’re more into the music scene, there’s also jazz concerts every night on the premises, as well as guided art tours and workshops. The festival begins on July 5th and runs all week. 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

“Million Dollar Quartet” (lagunaplayhouse.com)

This is a show that you won’t want to miss, especially if you’re into musicals about rock legends. It tells the story of the jam session in Memphis with the icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. This session became the most famous jam in recording history. The show will run July 5-29 at the Laguna Playhouse.

Fashion Island’s Friday Night Flix (shopfashionisland.com)

Looking to watch some cult classics under the stars? The screenings begin on July 6th and run all summer long. Jaws will screen on July 6, followed by A League of Their Own (July 13), Dirty Dancing (July 20) and Pretty in Pink (July 27). 

OC Fair (Ocfair.com)

The OC Fair (July 13-August 12) has pretty much everything. There’s a rodeo, pig racing, BMX biking, carnival rides, a petting zoo, and lots of fried food. If you’re into classic rock, there are nightly concerts. Earth, Wind, & Fire is on the roster. 88 Fair Dr., Costa Mesa. 

San Clemente Ocean Festival (oceanfestival.org)

On July 21-22, “The Greatest Show on Surf” is celebrating over 40 years. If you’re into surf competitions, beach runs, and body-surfing clinics, this is your event. San Clemente Pier, San Clemente.
