Get in Touch with Nature and Get Healthy: July Nutrition

Eat Natural, Get Healthy: July Nutrition

Seasonal nutrition can guide our eating choices and help us connect with the earth. Before high-speed transportation and big agriculture, humans had to live and eat by the seasons. We were more connected to the earth and therefore, to ourselves. We live in California, a state that’s abundant in fresh fruits and vegetables. July is especially jam-packed with juicy nutrition. Buy local, support your community farmers, and get in sync with nature. It’s a win, win, win situation. Here are some healthy and delicious options from the food rainbow for July.

Berries

Berries are filled with antioxidants, which make them perfect if you’re looking to cleanse your system. Blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries are filled with essential vitamins. They’ll leave you feeling happy, healthy, and hydrated.

Cherries

Life is just a bowl of cherries, right? Summer is the cherry season and it’s time to indulge in this glorious fruit. Pro tip: freeze them so you can enjoy in the fall, winter, and spring. Cherries have been shown to help sleep, so pop a few before bed for optimal snoozing.

Eggplant, Greens, and Cucumbers

Don’t forget about the veggies. Green foods are rich in iron micronutrients and eggplant is high in Vitamin C and magnesium. Cucumbers are super hydrating and the perfect summer snack. Eat in abundance!

Corn

Corn on the cob is the staple summer food. Grill it, boil it, or even eat it raw. Corn is rich in fiber and thiamin and it’s simply fun to eat.

Peaches

Peaches are another staple summer food! Peaches make the perfect summer snack. They’re juicy, sweet, and loaded with vitamins A and C. Not a fan of the fuzz? Nectarines are also in season!
